History

After the Kispiox Valley Rodeo was established in 1948, a Hall was required to hold Rodeo dances and award ceremonies to honour the cowboys and cowgirls, as well as to provide a place for residents to gather.

Built with donated lumber and volunteer labour, the Kispiox Valley Community Centre has been the heart of our community since 1952.  The Hall provided a meeting place for the Kispiox Valley Farmer’s Institute, a farming co-operative established in 1928.

The valley’s history of volunteerism remains strong, and the Hall has evolved through volunteer labour and fund-raising from its original one room, to include kitchen facilities built in 1960, and updated in the 70’s (hydro was added in 1970).

An expansion to the Hall occurred in 1986 and the installation of basic indoor plumbing was completed in 1994.  A major hall renovation was completed in 2010-2011.

Atmosphere

At the heart of the Kispiox Valley community, the Hall sits on the bank of the renowned Kispiox River. The Hall and Community Grounds are home to the annual Kispiox Valley Rodeo and Kispiox Valley Music Festival. There is no cell service at the Hall, making it a great venue to unplug, unwind, and catch up with friends, family and neighbours. Our natural setting makes the Hall a perfect spot for retreats.

The 2,400 sqft main hall area can comfortably accommodate a sit down meal for up to 175 guests. A spacious commercial kitchen with commercial gas range and large serving window assures everyone will be well fed. The large stage works equally well for an intimate poetry reading or a 12 piece band. The huge covered verandah creates the perfect place to step away for a moment or to welcome your guests. There are convenient double washrooms, and ample parking is right outside. The Hall is wheelchair accessible.
